IEC 62443 is an internationally recognised series of standards for cybersecurity in industrial automation and control systems. It provides the common technical language behind DEIF’s product cybersecurity approach and several requirements assessed through IACS UR E27.

What does IEC 62443 cover?

The series addresses cybersecurity across the lifecycle of an industrial control system. It includes requirements for product suppliers, system integrators and asset owners, as well as technical security requirements for components and systems.

• Product suppliers: secure product-development lifecycle and technical security requirements for components.

• System integrators: security requirements for integration and the deployed system.

• Asset owners: security management requirements for the operating organisation.

• Security levels: increasing capability to resist defined categories of cyber threat.

DEIF controllers include cybersecurity capabilities designed in alignment with IEC 62443 requirements. For all variants of iE 250 and iE 350 controllers and the iE 650 PLC, full E27 certification adds independent product-level evidence based on recognised cybersecurity requirements.

Why does IEC 62443 matter for DEIF customers?

For marine customers: IACS UR E27 is technically aligned with IEC 62443. Full E27 certification provides product-level evidence that can support vessel classification activities.

For EPC contractors and land-based energy customers: IEC 62443 is a recognised framework used in industrial cybersecurity discussions and specifications. DEIF’s IEC 62443-aligned products, combined with E27 certification all variants of iE 250, iE 350, and iE 650 PLC, provide a documented and independently assessed product-security starting point.

For customers preparing for the CRA: Several technical themes in IEC 62443 are also relevant to CRA readiness. Products designed in alignment with these requirements provide a useful foundation, but CRA conformity requires its own product-specific assessment and documentation.
