The certification provides independent third-party evidence that defined cybersecurity requirements have been assessed, giving customers a stronger starting point than a manufacturer declaration alone.

For marine customers, E27 certification provides recognised product-level evidence for classification projects. The same certification and supporting cybersecurity information can also help land-based OEMs, EPCs and system integrators document supplier and component assessments.

EPC contractors and system integrators increasingly need to demonstrate how selected components support the cybersecurity requirements of the complete system. DEIF provides an independently certified product foundation and relevant documentation that can be incorporated into the customer’s wider system, machine or project assessment.

IACS UR E27-certified controllers

What is IACS UR E27?

The International Association of Classification Societies Unified Requirement E27 defines cybersecurity requirements for individual computer-based systems installed on board vessels. It covers the equipment level, distinct from the ship-level requirements of UR E26.

E27 requires equipment manufacturers to demonstrate that products are developed with cybersecurity built in, configured securely, capable of supporting incident detection and logging, supported by vulnerability and update processes, and documented for integration into the vessel’s cyber-resilience architecture.

All variants of the iE 250 and iE 350 controllers and the iE 650 PLC combine IEC 62443-aligned security capabilities with full IACS UR E27 certification. The certification is recognised by all major classification societies.

Why is E27 relevant outside marine applications?

IACS UR E27 is a maritime equipment requirement, but the cybersecurity capabilities assessed at product level are not exclusively maritime. Access control, authenticated communication, secure configuration, event logging and vulnerability handling are equally relevant when the same controller technology is used in land-based energy and industrial applications.

For land customers, full E27 certification can therefore serve as independent supplier evidence that the controller has been assessed against recognised cybersecurity requirements. It does not make a complete machine, plant or system E27-compliant, and it does not replace the customer’s own risk or conformity assessment.

What is the relationship between E26 and E27?

E26 addresses the overall ship-level cyber-resilience framework, while E27 addresses individual on-board systems and equipment. Together they support the overall vessel approach: E26 covers the vessel architecture, and E27 provides product-level requirements and evidence for relevant equipment.

By specifying an applicable E27-certified DEIF controller, shipbuilders and owners can use certified product evidence as part of the broader E26 compliance work.
