DEIF Wind Power Technology and Iranian Saba Niroo commits to long-term collaboration on wind power technology
On a Danish delegation visit to Iran on the 5th and 6th January, DEIF Wind Power Technology and Iranian Turbine OEM Saba Niroo committed to a long-term collaboration for retrofit of existing Vestas V47 turbines and for supplying control system technology for new turbines in the MW class.
Saba Niroo has approximately 200 Vestas V47 wind turbines running in Iran and has plans to produce turbines in the 2-3 MW class, in the future. Saba Niroo brings to the collaboration, many years of experience in setting up wind turbines and has very good production facilities. DEIF Wind Power Technology will deliver advanced control system technology for the old and new turbines.
“This collaboration is essential for both DEIF and Saba Niroo. To begin with, it is important and also very interesting to upgrade the many old Vestas V47 turbines and extend their life time,” says Christian Nielsen, Executive VP and Managing Director at DEIF Wind Power Technology
Retrofit Vestas V47 Turbines
The existing Vestas V47 turbines in Iran are at the moment running with low availability as their control systems are old and at the same time, it is a challenge to find spare parts for replacement on the market today seeing that the turbines at the sites in Iran are more than 15 years old. Perfectly normal that the electronical system is only built to last 12-15 years, DEIF Wind Power Technology will replace and upgrade the old turbines with new control system technology built to last the remaining life time of the turbines. With a new system, the turbines will also get an upgrade on remote monitoring including access to important turbine performance data.
The After Market is growing worldwide and DEIF Wind Power Technology expects an increasing need for Turbine Retrofit solutions on the market where contribution of technology transfer is highly needed. DEIF has done this in China for the past 10 years as Christian Nielsen expresses;
“In Iran we meet a young organization who is extremely competent and very eager to become experts in wind power for the purpose of increasing the localization and optimization of the turbines performance. This fits perfectly with our competence to adjust wind solutions for technology transfer. We see many comparisons to the need in China, where DEIF with major success have obtained a big share on the market for local turbine manufacturers. Our assumption is that Iran will develop accordingly where local manufactures will dominate the market.”
Iran’s future on the market for green energy
Iran is pioneer on the market for onshore wind energy development in the Middle East with a forecast to increase with 3.2 GW by 2020 (Global Data, 2016). Sanctions against the Iranian market are have been lifted and the next step for Iran is to take part in the development for green energy. With a place on top 18 of countries with the strongest economy and almost 80 million inhabitants, Iran is a developing country with much potential. The next step within green energy development will be to produce and set up new turbines in the MW class. This is where DEIF comes on board with the opportunity to contribute to the development with wind turbine technology for the next generation of wind turbines.
