I am the first person to move from a subsidiary to the group headquarters in Skive, Denmark.
I started working for DEIF MEDiterranea as Support Engineer in 2007. In the subsidiary in France, formally we have only technical and sales departments though the company is also growing. When I started I was the third employee. Today we’re nine.
Over time, my title remained the same but my responsibilities evolved. Because a subsidiary is a relatively small workplace, we cover for each other; you multitask a little bit and get a feel of most levels of the business.
The process of changing jobs and moving to Denmark started when I was here in 2008 or 2009 for a summer seminar. At the time I mentioned to my Country Manager and Key and Strategic Account Manager, that I would be interested to move if they could give me more responsibility, more challenges, and in December 2010 there was an opening for a position as Product Manager in Power Technology, Diesel.
DEIF Denmark took the initiative and contacted me.
We had to negotiate an agreement between France and Skive and for now, 30% of my work time is dedicated to my responsibilities with DEIF France and 70% is dedicated to my job here in Skive. For the moment, we’re trying it out for two months. If it is successful I will move here permanently with my wife and child in January 2012.
The working language is English but my plan is to learn Danish. For day to day work, English is fine. It’s easy for people here to switch from Danish to English and it’s not a problem for me either. But in the long term I feel I need to learn Danish for social reasons, to integrate more fully into the Danish society.
